Unlike most states, Idaho has had a large number of recent applicants for substitute teaching positions in the state. Due to this influx, Idaho school districts are accepting applications from only those applicants who are in the process of completing a teacher education program in the state, or who are referred at the school site.
Classified substitutes are those who have not been certified, and they are permitted to fill in for the following positions in any school district: administrative or office assistants, special education assistant, security officer positions, health technicians, and others. In some school districts, classified substitutes can fill in in the classroom.
In urban areas, only certified substitutes can fill in in the classroom. To become certified, the candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree in any subject from an accredited college or university, proven through college transcripts.
